At Just Skin, our fees for X-ray therapy (XRT) and Grenz ray therapy cover your entire course of care from initial planning through to post-treatment evaluation. This includes the knowledge of our radiation oncologist, radiation therapist, medical physicist, nurse and administrative team. It means there are no hidden costs.
We are a private billing clinic. While full payment is required upfront, Medicare rebates significantly reduce your final out-of-pocket cost.

How Medicare supports your treatment
Medicare is Australia’s public health insurance system. It provides rebates that help cover the cost of medical services, including specialist consultations and eligible treatments such as X-ray therapy (XRT) and Grenz ray therapy.
When you attend a private billing clinic like Just Skin, you pay the full cost of your treatment upfront. Then you submit your claim to Medicare (or we can do this on your behalf), and Medicare will pay the rebate into your bank account, usually within just a few days.
Standard Medicare rebates
Medicare pays a fixed rebate for each stage of your treatment, based on item numbers listed in the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
These rebates apply to:
Planning – where we prepare your customised treatment plan
Treatment – the delivery of your XRT or Grenz therapy sessions.
As you can see from the table above, your full course of treatment may cost $3,000. However, thanks to the Medicare rebate, you’ll receive $1,038 back from Medicare, meaning your out-of-pocket costs will ultimately be $1,962.
What is the Medicare Safety Net?
Some people have much higher healthcare costs than others due to ongoing or complex health conditions.
If you’ve spent more than a certain amount on healthcare costs in one calendar year, you qualify for additional support through the Medicare Safety Net. This significantly reduces your final out-of-pocket cost.
The 2025 Safety Net thresholds are:
$834.50 if you hold a Medicare concession card or are eligible for Family Tax Benefit part A
$2,615.50 for all other patients
Once this threshold is met:
You continue to receive the standard Medicare rebate
Medicare also pays 80% of the remaining “gap” between your treatment cost and the rebate.
Once you qualify for the Safety Net, the typical total out-of-pocket expense for treatment at Just Skin may drop from $1,962 to approximately $500.If you’re unsure whether you’ve reached the threshold, we recommend registering for the Safety Net through Medicare so all your eligible services count towards it.

We understand that life doesn’t always go to plan. If you can’t make your appointment, please call us on 07 5348 9460 to reschedule.
Remember, your treatment involves multiple clinical specialists and equipment bookings. We kindly request at least 48 hours’ notice for any cancellations so that we can offer your appointment to other patients needing treatment.
